Cystic Hygroma

Summary



Lymphatic malformations with large lymphatic spaces.
Solitary cystic hygromas may be seen in young adults in the submandibular region and the posterior triangle. It is believed that these are usually post-traumatic rather than congenital.
Present as a painless compressible mass


Ultrasound Features



Small lesions may be unilocular but larger ones are multilocular
- Extensive vascularity may be seen within the septa
- Cystic hygromas are trans-spatial and follow no obvious anatomic boundaries, extending into multiple cervical spaces
