- Patient presents with neck pain
- symptoms like fever and lethargy after URTI or viral illness
- Thyroid exquisitely tender
- In the acute phase patient may be thyrotoxic, followed by hypothyroidism in 2-4 months, eventually returning to euthyroid state in 6 months
